Keeping Calm, Staying Sane and Healthy in Challenging Times
1 year, 5 years, 10 years, even 20 years from now most of you will remember where you were living, what you were doing and how you felt in March 2020. Why? COVID-19 is having a huge impact on all our lives, even though very few of us know anyone personally who has contracted this virus.
It’s vitally important that we work together as a community to keep ourselves, our loved ones and our neighbours physically, mentally and emotionally healthy. Fear is an emotion that drops our immunity drastically.
Here are 5 tips on staying well during these difficult times.
- Stay calm. Falling into a panic does not help anyone. Try not to dramatize the situation or get caught into a media frenzy. Follow people you respect then do what’s right in your heart for you and your precious family.
- Breathe. Slowly. Deeply. Anytime you feel overwhelmed or concerned, take several slow conscious breaths.
- Keep your immune system strong. Drink plenty of water and herbal teas, eat wholesome plant based foods, get sufficient fresh air and sunshine, sleep soundly and wash your hands frequently. We have implemented heightened cleaning measures to ensure your visit to our practice is safe.
- While social distancing (perhaps even social isolation) is occurring remember to connect and check in with those who may be lonely and vulnerable. Text or phone them to offer support. Surprise someone with a care package at their front door. Random acts of kindness benefit both the receiver and the giver.
- Slow down. Use this as an opportunity to slow down. To get off the busy treadmill. Do some yoga in the back yard, throw a ball to the dog of the kids, read a book.
Please share this information with those who can benefit including those who are struggling to come to terms with the climate of fear and chaos that may surround us.
Let’s get this straight, the figures as this goes to print Western Australia has 35 confirmed cases, 1 death, ZERO locally transmitted cases and 6582 people have tested negative. Western Australia’s geographic isolation is proving to be a bonus. Nurture yourself and those around you and know that we are here to support you in whatever way we can.
